Enclosure Design and Progress...

March 16, 2016

One cannot mount PCBs directly to the steel structure of the FLITES project. Apart from being poor industry practice, the PCBs arequite delicate. In combination with the other post-Doc on the project, Alex, we've needed to design suitable enclosured for the custom designed PCBs.

This has required the interplay between electrical and mechanical requirements while also having budgettary constraints. Thermal issues are also present due to the high dynamic switching currents of the ADCs, PLL and the high-utilisation Spartan 6 FPGA.

This series of images quickly runs through the encosure design. You can probably tell I'm a fan of visual interpretations of work in progress and this seems like the perfect place to put the images out there.
